"Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" (1937) is the first full-length
animated feature film (83 minutes in length) in color and with sound
ever produced. Because of the tales complexity and length, Walt Disney
had to create a new format for making cartoons. Among many innovations,
he used a multi-plane camera to heighten the illusion of depth, and the
films characters were modelled after live actors and were given human
characteristics. Also, large hand painted cells and drawing boards were
used both in the feature's production and as part of the planning process.
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs took four years to make, and cost 1.7 million dollars.
It premiered during the Christmas season of 1937 and was nominated for
an Oscar for Best Score. Walt Disney recieved an Honorary Oscar for the
film, as it was "recognized as a significant screen innovation which
has charmed millions and pioneered a great new entertainment field for
the motion picture cartoon."
The tale of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was adapted from a story
written by the Brother's Grimm, in "Children's and Household Tales",
published in 1812.
Pictured above is a lovely original production cel of Snow White from
the original animation feature, "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs".
Included is the original Courvoisier Background. Animation Sensations
is currently selling this vintage, 1937, production cel and background
for $7,500.
Pictured
to the left, is a remarkably well preserved original vintage drawing of
Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse from the 1935 Disney animation short, "On
Ice". In this cartoon, Mickey Mouse, Goofy, Donald Duck, Minnie Mouse
and Pluto, go ice skating on a frozen river. Micky shows off his ice-skating
acrobatics to Minnie; Goofy, dressed as a hillbilly, does some ice-fishing
using tabacco as bait instead of worms; Donald cruelly straps skates to
Pluto's paws and laughs at his attempts to make his way across the ice.
Ultimately Donald gets what he deserves when, after strapping himself
to a kite, nearly gets swept over a waterfall. Mickey Mouse
runs to his rescue and heroically saves Donald from cartoon death. We
are currently selling this wonderful vintage 12" x 10" drawing
for $1,000. All are invited to view this and other original animation production
drawings, storyboards, and sketches on our Disney
Animation Production Drawings web pages.
The
animated feature musical, "The Jungle Book", was the last feature film
produced under Walt Disney's supervision. It was a Box Office hit and recieved
a huge number of reviews including some even published by The New York Times.
The film was a nominated in 1967 for
an Academy Award for Best Original Song, "The Bear Necessities"
(Music and Lyrics: Terry Gilkyson) and was the first animated feature
to win a Gold Record for its soundtrack which sold over 500,000 copies.
Loosely based upon the tales of Rudyard Kipling, The Jungle Book follows
the adventures of a young orphan boy named Mowgli who was raised by wolfs
in the tropical jungle. The plot revolves around Mowgli's need to join
human society in order to survive the danger posed by Shere Kahn, a human
hating tiger.
Animation Sensations is currently selling the original King Louie
production cel, and its original production background, as pictured above,
for $8,000. What makes this key set-up especially valuable, is that the
production background is the exact one used in The Jungle Book, in the
scene with this particular production cel. This is an extraordinarily
rare find.

Animation Sensations has recently acquired a rare original production
cel with its original matching production drawing of the famous Sorcerer
Yensid (Disney spelled backward). In this dynamic scene from Fantasia,
released in 1941, Mickey Mouse (the Sorcerer's apprentice) borrows Yensid's
magic hat, seeking an easy way out of his duties. Animating a broom, he
gets it to carry water for him, but he falls asleep, and havock breaks
loose in the castle. This beautiful Courvoisier setup and matching production
drawing are nicely framed with a double mat, gold frame, and matching
gold filet. We are selling the pair for $11,000 framed.

One Froggy Evening was produced in technicolor by Warner Brother's Cartoons,
Inc. in 1955. This hilarious short was directed by the famous animator,
Charles M. Jones (Chuck Jones).
The story revolves around a construction worker, who, in the process
of demolishing an old 1892 building, discovers a frog that can sing. So
enthused by the possibility of makng it rich off the talents of his new
found amphibian, he cashes in his life savings to pay for talent agents
and theatres. Humorously, the frog will only sing for the construction
worker. In front of audiences and agents, he simply croaks, as any frog
normally would!
Pictured above is a lovely original production background created by
Phil DeGuard, in 1955, from One Froggy Evening. We are currently selling
this piece for $10,000 framed. For details, please contact Animation
Sensations.
