Disney Sericels and Lumicels
Animation Sensations is pleased to announce that it has recently
acquired a number of limited edition Disney Animation Art Sericels and Lumicels.
A
Sericel is a limited edition acetate animation cel that has been
created through the meticulous process of Serigraphy. This is a
technique close to stenciling. First, an image or design is superimposed
on a very fine mesh screen that has been stretched over a frame.
Ink is then manually or mechanically forced by means of a squeegee
through the stenciled fabric onto the printing surface. This process
is comparable to silk screening, a medium often used in Modern and
Contemporary art. Animation Sensations currently has a wide variety
of Sericels, from Snow White, Pinocchio, Peter Pan, Lady and the Tramp on through
to Winnie the Pooh.
Unlike Sericels, a Lumicel is a fairly recent creation in the world
of animation art. Aesthetically, a Lumicel looks very much like
a composite animation model sheet and sericel, but when activated
through the wave of a hand, a section of the model sheet is illuminated
and an accompanying sound bite is played. The commentary varies
from narration by animation pioneers such as Walt Disney or Mel
Blanc, to quintessential character lines, soundtracks, or a film
score. Amazingly, the technology is invisible. There are no buttons,
speakers, or switches to detract from the integrity of the cel.
Currently, Lumicels come in only two sizes, Portrait 16 Field (14"
X 16") and Pan 12 Field (10" X 24") and are available framed or
unframed in very limited numbered editions.
Animation Sensations, located in Washington D.C.offers a wide variety of
Disney limited edition Lumicels featuring such characters as Mickey
and Minnie Mouse, Lady and the Tramp, Peter Pan and Snow White and the Seven
Dwarfs.
